Phule – A Powerful Tribute to Forgotten Revolutionaries
As part of JivanJagruti’s mission and to honour those forgotten yet powerful changemakers of Indian history, I’m sharing my heartfelt review of Phule—a film based on the life and legacy of Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule.
This film is not only for history lovers—it’s a must-watch for anyone who wants to truly understand how education became a tool of revolution in our country.
Jyotiba Phule’s vision for women’s education and social equality and Savitribai’s unwavering strength in carrying that vision forward are the heart of this story. The film shows how these two stood not just as husband and wife, but as equal partners in a transformative mission.
It raises a thought-provoking question—whose role feels more impactful? Savitribai’s or Jyotiba’s?
And the answer the film gives is beautiful: both were equally powerful, equally needed.
Their story proves that men and women are not competitors, but complementary forces—when they walk together, revolutions are born.
One moving scene stands out—when Jyotiba Phule receives a shawl of honour and drapes it on Savitribai in front of society. A powerful symbol that says: “Behind every successful man, there is a woman—not behind him, but right beside him.”
Another powerful moment shows Savitribai encouraging Jyotiba to accept the title of Mahatma, reinforcing how deeply they believed in and uplifted each other.
This film is also a reminder of Jyotiba’s remarkable work with Dalits—how he awakened them to their rights, formed the Satyashodhak Samaj, and started a revolution of thought that eventually fuelled India’s freedom movement.
✨ The message is clear:
* Education brings courage.
* Knowledge breaks chains.
* Respect must be mutual.
* And true empowerment is shared.
If we, especially as women, are enjoying the fruits of freedom and empowerment today, it’s because of pioneers like Savitribai and Jyotiba Phule.
Let us never forget them.
I couldn’t watch the film in theatres but recently saw it on YouTube—and I urge you not to miss it.
Please watch it, reflect on it, and most importantly, encourage the younger generation—especially girls—to see it. They are living the dream that Savitribai once dared to fight for.
From my end, I rate this film 7 out of 10—for its storytelling, strong performances, historical relevance, and for finally bringing back the legacy of two real revolutionaries.
Warm regards
