Wedding Preparations vs Marriage Preparations

A few days ago, I met my old neighbor Bakulaben at the market. She was standing outside a wedding cloth store, looking a bit anxious, glancing around, checking her watch every now and then. It seemed like she was waiting for someone. I spotted her from a distance, and my heart pulled me to meet her after so many years. They say the first neighbor is the closest! I was sure she would be happy to meet me, too. So, I quickly crossed the road and stood behind her, then asked, "How are you, Bakulaben? Who are you waiting for?"

Hearing my voice, she turned around and smiled with delight. "Oh, Nita Ben! How are you? It's been so many years!"

"Thank you, it's great to see you. I have some good news! Nikita's engagement is done! The wedding is after Diwali!"

I was so happy to hear that and congratulated her. I asked, "Who are you waiting for?"

She replied, "I'm waiting for Nikita. She will come here directly from her job. We need to buy things for the wedding."

I asked, "Why so soon? The wedding is still a while away—five or six months. Why don't you relax a bit?"

Bakulaben laughed and said, "There are so many preparations for the wedding, Nita Ben! We'll do them little by little, and everything will be ready on time. The first thing we did after the wedding date was book the hall. Otherwise, the good halls get booked quickly. Since our relatives are wealthy, they want a good hall with enough parking for the guests. Once the hall is booked, we will also need to book a beautician for the bride. If you know anyone, let me know. The famous ones charge a lot, at least 25,000. After that, we will look for jewelry, outfits, and so on. The days will pass by in no time, and we won't even realize it. Right now, we're only preparing for the engagement. It's a small function, with just close relatives."

She continued, "Even though we are doing small things, the budget keeps growing. This is the sale season, so we might get a few things cheaper. I’ve saved some money in Nikita’s name, and I’ve been buying gold for her since she was little, so I’m not too worried, but of course, there is some anxiety. This is our first big event, and nothing should go wrong! We need to be very careful about the new bride too."

She spoke all this in one breath, and I could see the clear anxiety on her face. I reassured her, "Don't worry, everything will fall into place."

(But in my mind, her words seemed so true, and I felt a little sad. How much planning parents have to do for just one day of their daughter’s wedding!)

Indeed, there are so many preparations for a wedding. From the band to the invitations, caterers, photographers, mehendi ceremony, musical evening, priests, decoration, menu for the food, reception venue, the bidai, honeymoon, and so on. The more we prepare, the less it feels. At the last moment, something always gets missed, and we end up running around!

It made me think: For just one day’s wedding, so much preparation goes into it, but what about the real preparation needed for a lifelong marriage?

Have we ever thought about preparing our son or daughter mentally for marriage? Have we considered whether they are truly ready to handle the responsibilities of family life, finances, and the balance between all these duties?

Are we prepared to let go of some of our attachments when our daughter goes to her in-laws? Are we, as parents, ready to adjust to a new daughter-in-law coming into our home?

These mental preparations for marriage are often overlooked. Once the wedding happens, then comes the real test. Expectations may or may not be fulfilled. What do we do when that happens? Have we thought about it?

The wedding is not just the union of two people but also of two families. To make it a joyful experience for life, both sides need to prepare thoroughly.

Just like pre-wedding photoshoots, there should also be pre-wedding counseling sessions for both families and the bride and groom. This could potentially prevent many engagements and marriages from falling apart. It’s a need for today’s times.

I hope that the representatives and elders of our society take note of this suggestion.

"Certainty in the Midst of Uncertainty"

Through JivanJagruti, I wish to share a life message that deeply touched me after the recent Ahmedabad plane crash.

How do we find certainty in the midst of uncertainty?

Dear friends,

Life is so unpredictable. Just when we’re setting goals and planning months ahead, a single moment can change everything.

The Pahalgam attack and now this tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad have shaken us all, reminding us how fragile life really is.

Every morning, we step out with dreams, unaware of what the next hour holds. And then suddenly, life can take a turn we never imagined.

All calculations fail, and we’re forced to walk a new path — whether we like it or not. That’s the truth of life.

This is where we must learn the art of bringing certainty into uncertainty.

A tragedy may slow us down… but it must not stop us. If we understand this, life becomes more livable. But if we freeze in fear or grief, we push life toward a full stop.

Life’s tragedies don’t come to break us — they come to teach us, awaken us, and strengthen us.

Those who’ve experienced such incidents closely may find it harder to move on. But time, in its quiet way, helps us heal and return to the flow of life.

Let us remember — we cannot change the uncertainty of life, but we can keep moving through it.

Sometimes we’ll reach our goals, sometimes we won’t. But as long as we keep walking, we’re truly living.

Take the example of the Ahmedabad plane crash.

Did anyone just sit in helplessness, looking at it?

No.

News agencies started reporting.

Rescue teams acted immediately.

Doctors treated casualties.

Police and investigation units took over.

Families rushed to help.

Everyone had one shared aim —

To bring life back to life.

There was a race —

To revive struggling breaths,

To pull out survivors from the debris,

To comfort the grieving,

To restore what was shattered.

No one stopped. No one waited. No one gave up. All were rushing to help the suffered people.

And that, my friends, is what it means to find certainty in chaos.

This is life’s truth. Let’s learn from it. Let’s live by it.

Embracing Change: A New year’s Reflection!💫✨

Did you notice?

between "Yesterday" and "today"—

so much has changed!

At the stroke of midnight:

- Time changed,

- The day changed,

- The date changed,

- The year changed,

In mere moments, the old year was gone, and the new year arrived!

Yet, amidst this whirlwind of change, some things remain constant:

"We, all of us."

The same thoughts, the same habits,

The same beliefs, and the same version of ourselves.

Over the years, What has truly changed?

Perhaps only our clothing, our food preferences,

And the outward appearances of our lifestyles.

But have we ever paused to truly question:

Have we updated our mindset?

Have we improved with our bad habits?

Have we refined our beliefs and thought process?

The arrival of a new year is not just a celebration; it is a reminder, a call to action. It whispers to us:

"Embrace change, welcome renewal, and adapt to the flow of time."

Just as we bid farewell to the old year and wholeheartedly welcome the new,

We must also let go of outdated beliefs and habits,

Making space for growth, transformation, and betterment in our lives.

True transformation begins when we resolve to change not just externally,

But from within—rethinking, realigning, and evolving.

This process isn’t easy—it challenges us.

But isn’t this what a New Year’s Resolution is all about?

A deliberate, heartfelt promise to ourselves

To pursue what makes us stronger, wiser, and happier.

So, Let us resolve to:

- Reimagine our old habits and beliefs,

- Embrace new ideas,

- And mold ourselves to align with the rhythm of change.

Let the dawn of this new year inspire  and imbibe its spirit of transformation in us.

દિકરી આપણી પારકી થાપણ!!

દીકરી ની સગાઈ નક્કી થાય એટલે, ઘર માં બધાને ખુશી તો થાય જ પણ 

સાથે સાથે, એ જ ખુશી ક્યારે, 

હસતા, હસતા , આંખ ભીની કરી નાખે, 

એની કોઈ ને ખબર પણ ના પડે??😌

દીકરી હવે આપણાં ઘરે થોડા જ દિવસ છે, એ માત્ર ખયાલ થી જ માં બાપ ના આંખ માં થી આંસુ ના રોકાય!

પણ દીકરી તેમને રડતાં જોઈ ના જાયે એની ખાસ તકેદારી તો ફક્ત દીકરી ના પપ્પા જ રાખી શકે!!....

ક્યાંક મારી દીકરી મને રડતાં જોશે તો??....એ પણ બિચારી રડી પડશે, એ વિચારી ને પપ્પા, અહીં તહીં જોઈ લે પણ દીકરી ની સામે નજર ના મિલાવે !....

પોતાની વાહલી દીકરી ની નજર થી પપ્પા કાંઈ બચી શકે??

દીકરી પણ આંખ ના એક ખૂણે થી, તરત જ પપ્પા ના હાવ ભાવ સમજી જાયે, પણ એ પપ્પા ને બતાવે નહીં,..... અલક મલક ની વાતો હસતા હસતા કરવા લાગે,...." પપ્પા આજે તો મારા સાસરે આમ થયું, ને તેમ થયું....કરતી , કરતી, પપ્પા ની નજર ચૂકવી, પોતાના આંસુ ક્યારે લૂછી લે, એ પપ્પા ને પણ ખબર  ના પડે!!!......

દીકરી આપણી પારકી થાપણ છે, એ વાત બધા જ માં બાપ જાણતા હોય છે, પણ, જ્યારે ખરેખર એ સમય આવે, ત્યારે એ થાપણ ને વળગી રહેવાનું મન થાય......બે ઘડી તો એમ પણ લાગે, શું કામ આપણે આટલી જલ્દી કરી?...થોડા દિવસ રહી ને દીકરી ની સગાઈ કરી હોત તો...., હજી ક્યાં એટલી મોટી થયી ગયી હતી?? ......લગ્ન ની શું કામ આટલી ઉતાવળ કરી???.....આવા ઘણા સવાલો ના જવાબ આપતા, આપતા, મમ્મી ને પપ્પા એક બીજા ને સમજાવતા બેઠાં હોય...

બસ! આમ આમ કરતા, કરતા, દીકરી ના લગ્ન લેવાય ને લગ્ન ની તારીખ પાકકી થાય!!....ભાઈ ને આ વાત ની ખબર પડે એટલે પેહલા તો, એ ગુસ્સે થાય, શું કામ આટલી બધી ઉતાવળ કરો છો, તમે લોકો?.....

હજી બે મહિના પછી ની તારીખ નક્કી કરો ને....એમ કહેતા, કેહતા, બિચારો ભાઈ મન માં ઘણા બહાના ગોતવા લાગે,... કેમ કરી ને હું મારી બહેન ને રોકી લઉં!....

આજે એને કોણ સમજાવે??......કે દીકરી તો પારકી અમાનત, છે!....સમય આવે, એને વળાવવી જ પડે!!!....

અને પેલી નાની બહેનને તો, મોટી બહેનના  લગ્ન ની ખૂબ હોંશ!!, એને એમ થાય મારા કપડાં, બહેનના કપડાં થી ઉતરતા ના હોવા જોઈએ! વાત વાત માં જીદ કરે, મને પણ આવું જ લાવી આપો....હું તો જીજાજી ના બુટ ચોરીશ, આ ડાન્સ કરીશ, તે ડાન્સ કરીશ!!....

એની તો ખુશી ના સમાતી હોય!!.....સાચી ખબર તો તેને ત્યારે પડશે જ્યારે બહેન સાસરે જશે ને એને ઘર ખાલી ખાલી લાગશે,.... એની સાથે લડવા, ઝઘડવા વાળું કોઈ નહીં હોય.....ત્યારે એની આંખ ના આંસુ વહેતાં બંદ નહીં થાય!!

નાનપણથી ઘર ઘર રમતી, આપણી દીકરી, જ્યારે સાચે જ એના સપના ના રાજકુમાર સાથે ઘર સંસાર માંડવા જઇ રહી હોય ત્યારે, એની feelings તો કોઈ સમજી પણ ના શકે!......એક બાજુ ખુશી તો એકબાજુ પિયર ને છોડી ને જવવાનું દુઃખ!!!..….

કોઈ સાસરે જાતી દિકરી જ આ વાત સમજી શકે!

માટે ચાલો આજે આપણે સાસરે જતી આપણી દિકરી ના આ સોનેરી સફર ને ખુશીઓ ને પ્રેમ થી ભરી ખૂબ યાદગાર  બનાવીએ!! ......

સુરક્ષાબંધન - A safetyband!

રક્ષાબંધન!

વર્ષો થી ચાલ્યો આવતો ભાઈ બહેન ના પ્રેમ નો આ તહેવાર, હજી પણ પોતાની એટલી જ ગરિમા જાળવેલો છે!!

બીજા ઘણા બધા તહેવારો માં સમય જતાં changes આવતા ગયા, પણ આ તહેવાર માં, હજી સુધી,

નથી કોઈ ઝાંખપ આવી કે નથી કોઈ changes આવ્યા,

નથી કોઈ બદલાવ આવ્યો કે 

નથી કોઈ ને આ તહેવાર નો કંટાળો આવ્યો.....

હજી પણ આ તહેવાર ની એજ મીઠાશ જળવાઈ રહી છે.  

મહિના પહેલે થી જ આ તહેવાર ની ખબર પડી જાય ,જ્યારે બજાર માં રંગબેરંગી રાખડીઓ વેચાતી દેખાવા લાગે . ....

બહેનો પણ મન માં ને મન માં હરખાતી હોય ને નક્કી કરતી હોય કે રક્ષાબંધન ના હું શું પેહરીશ? કેવી તૈયાર થઈશ? શુ મીઠાઈ લયી જઈશ?...

ઐશ્વર્યા રાય બચ્ચન હોય કે નાની ચાલી માં રહેતી બહેન ,

બધી બહેનો માટે આ તહેવાર ની મઝા એક સમાન છે.

ભાઈ માટે ફક્ત એક રાખડી લેવા, બહેન,

એક ફેરિયા થી બીજા ફેરિયા ....સુધી ફરી ફરી ને.... સૌથી સુંદર રાખડી પસંદ કરે....જેમ કે ભાઈ માટે કોઈ કિંમતી વસ્તુ ના લેતી હોય!!

અને અહીં ભાઈ પણ .....

કેટલો પણ modern  કેમ ના હોય,  

એની બહેને બાંધેલી રાખડી બીજા, ત્રીજા દિવસ સુધી તો ક્યારેક ભાઈ બીજ સુધી બાંધી  જરૂર રાખશે... 

એવી તે શી વાત છે, આ તહેવાર માં,

કે હજી એટલા જ હર્ષ ઉલ્લાસ ને પ્રેમ થી આજ સુધી  ઉજવાય છે??

તો ચાલો જાણીએ, એ વાત ને.....

અને ......એ વાત છે,.....

ભાઈ અને બહેન વચ્ચે ના નિર્મળ પ્રેમની!!💞

આમાં આપવા માં જેટલો આનંદ છે એટલો  લેવામાં આનંદ છે.

ભાઈ બહેન ને પ્રેમ થી ભેટ આપે ને....

બહેન પણ ભાઈ એ આપેલી ભેટ સોગાદ ને ખૂબ જ પ્રેમ થી સ્વીકારે ને ખુશ થાય છે!!

કોઈ ભાઈ ને તમે, આજે, એમ કહેતા નહીં સાંભળ્યો હોય કે "મને આજે ટાઈમ નથી, હું બહેન ના ઘરે નહીં જાઉં" 

 કે 

નથી કોઈ  બહેન જે એવું  બોલી હશે કે 

"મને રક્ષા બંધન ના ભાઈ ના ઘરે જવાનો કંટાળો આવે છે"....

ભાઈ - બહેન નો આ પ્રેમ ફક્ત રાખડી ના ધાગા થી નથી બંધાયેલો,

એ બંધાયેલો છે, 

એકબીજા પ્રત્યે ના આપસી પ્રેમ, વિશ્વાસ ને સમજ થી!🤝

બાળપણ માં વિતાવેલા યાદગાર દિવસો થી,💖

નાની મોટી, તું-તું, મેં- મેં અને મસ્તી થી,

ક્યારેક મોટા ભાઈ ની ટકોર થી, 

તો ક્યારેક નાના ભાઈ ની મસ્તી મજાક થી,

ક્યારેક મોટી બહેન ના માર થી, તો 

ક્યારેક નાની બહેન ના હેત થી!

આ સંબંધ માં કોઈ ફરિયાદ જ નથી,

ને જો હોય પણ..... તો એ......ફક્ત તાતપુરતી ને નકલી,

પણ ક્યારેય permanant મનદુઃખ નહીં હોય,

ક્યારેય ઈર્ષા, સ્વાર્થ કે અભિમાન ને સ્થાન નહીં હોય,

કારણ આ સંબંધ ફક્ત આપવા માટે જ બનેલો છે,

બહેન, ભાઈ ની સલામતી ની દુઆઓ આપે,

 ને ,

ભાઈ, બહેન ની રક્ષા નું promise આપે,

માટે,

ચાલો, આજે આપણે બધા, 

ભારત ની બધી બહેનો ને,

એમની, સુરક્ષા ની ખાતરી આપીએ, ને

રક્ષાબંધન ના આ તહેવાર ને સુરક્ષાબંધન તરીકે ઉજવીએ !

આથી વિશેષ ભેટ શું હોઇ શકે આપણી બહેનો માટે?💞🤝💖

Thank you Secret SANTA!

Wish you all a very Happy New Year!!

Before we start with a new year, let's thank our Secret SANTA, first!

માટે ચાલો આજે વાત કરીએ

Secret Santa ની!!

 જે

24th December - Christmas eve પછી રાત નાં તમારા ઘરે ચુપકે થી આવી ને તમારી મનપસંદ ચીજો christmas  ટ્રી ની બાજુ માં મૂકી જાય અને સવારે, ઘર નાં બાળકો ઉઠી ને જુએ તો સંતા એ મુકેલી surprise gifts જોઈ ને મન માં હરખાય, ખુશ થાય, કારણકે સંતા એમની ઈચ્છા પ્રમાણેની ઘણી બધી gifts મૂકી ગયા હોય!!

Santa વિશે ની આ રીત ની સ્ટોરી તમે બધાએ સાંભળી જ હશે.
પણ એવી જ રીત ની gifts મોટા થયા પછી પણ તમને secretly મળે તો??.......જો તમને કોઈ secret Santa થઇ ને ગિફ્ટ મોકલે તો?
એટલું જ નહીં, તમે secrete Santa થઇ ને કોઈ ને ગિફ્ટ મોકલો તો???.....

હા, સમજી ગયા તમે! Secret SANTA એ એક trend છે, જે આજ કાલ બહુ જોવા મળે છે......કોર્પોરેટ companies, social clubs,  gatherings માં christmas celebration નું એક part છે.- "Secret Santa"  ...

દર વર્ષે મારી daughter યાદ કરી ને, જ્યારે પણ એની ઓફિસ માં christmas celebration નું week આવે ત્યારે એ વિચારતી જ હોય કે હું શું ગિફ્ટ આપુ મારી colleague ને આજ ના દિવસે as a secret Santa ???
અને સાથે સાથે એને પણ suspense હોય કે મને શું ગિફ્ટ મળશે secrete Santa તરફ થી!!.....
ખૂબી ની વાત એ હોય કે તમને ખબર ન હોય કે તમને એ ગિફ્ટ કોણે મોકલશે??......

Christmas celebration નાં દિવસે ઓફિસ માં બધા ભેગા મળી ને enjoy કરે !

બધાની gifts christmas tree નાં decoration પાસે મુકેલી હોય, 

સૌ એ પોતાના નામ ના tag વાલી ગિફ્ટ લઈ લેવાની અને ખોલી ને જોવી....

આ રીતે  જ્યારે secret gift મળે ત્યારે સ્વાભાવિક છે, excitement તો બધા ને થવાની જ!!!!

Generally બધા લોકો ત્યારે જ પોત પોતાની gifts ખોલે અને જોઈ ને રાજી થાય, એકબીજા ને બતાવે, discuss કરે પણ કોઈ કોઈ ને કહે નહીં કે એ ગિફ્ટ મેં તમને આપી છે.....
મઝા ની વાત એ છે કે,

તમે જ્યારે દૂર થી જુઓ, તમે આપેલી ગિફ્ટ મેળવી ને સામેવાળો કેટલો ખુશ થયો છે, એની જે ખુશી તમને મળે છે, એનો આનંદ કાઇક અલગ જ હોય છે, 

કોઈ ને દિલ થી આપવું અને secretly આપવું અને ક્રેડિટ પણ નાં લેવી....આ એક અદ્ભુત અનુભવ હોય છે....તમે એ આનંદ નીચે આપેલા ફોટો માં જોઈ શકો છો.

મને તો આ રીત નું celebration ખૂબ ગમ્યું, જ્યારે મારી daughter એ મારી પાસે એનું વર્ણન કર્યું.

કેટલો નાનો પ્રસંગ છે પણ કેટલી મોટી વાત કહે છે!! 

મન માં થયું,

શું આપણે આપણી routine life માં એકબીજા નાં Secret Santa બનીએ છીએ??

કોઈ પણ જાત ની ક્રેડિટ, લીધા વગર નિસ્વાર્થ ભાવે કોઈ ને આપણે ગિફ્ટ કે ખુશી આપીએ છીએ??
એક વાર વિચાર જરૂર કરીશું!!....

ક્યારેક કોઈ ને ખબર ન પડે એ રીતે કોઈ નું ખુશી નું કારણ આપણે બનીએ, એ થી વધુ ખુશી શું હોઈ શકે? આ વાત Secret Santa એ મને આજે શીખવાડી!

મન માં થયું, 

આપણો Secret Santa તો 

1. આપણો ભગવાન છે,

જીવન માં આવતા દરેક સારા પ્રસંગ, સારી opportunities, ઈશ્વરે મોકલેલી secret gifts તો છે.

2. વડીલો, માતા પિતા નાં આશીર્વાદ પણ આપણી માટે Secret Santa નું તો કામ કરે છે!!

3. બચપણ થી લયી મોટા થયા ત્યાં સુધી, નાં જાણે કેટલીય વખત આપણા માતા પિતા એ આપણી માટે secret Santa નો રોલ ભજવ્યો છે.

(હવે આપણા વારો છે એમના Secrete Santa બનવાનો!!)

4. નામ ની આશા વગર ક્યારેક secretly કરેલું દાન પાન પણ Secret Santa નાં ખાતા માં જ જમા થાય છે.

રોંજીદા જીવન માં જોઈએ તો,

5. ક્યારેક કોઈ નું અટકેલું કામ કરી દેવું....

ક્યારેક કોઈ ને વિના માંગે મદદ કરી દેવી....

ક્યારેક કોઈ નાં ઘર નું ચૂપચાપ રાશન ભરી દેવું,

તો ક્યારેક કોઈ ની સ્કૂલ ની fees ચૂપચાપ ભરી દેવી..

તો ક્યારેક હોસ્પિટલ નાં બિલ માં રાહત અપાવી દેવી.....

ક્યારેક કોઈ ને ધંધો set કરવામાં મદદ કરવી, 

તો,

ક્યારેક કોઈક ને સાચી સલાહ આપી, advicer બની, કોઈ ને તમે ફાયદો પણ પહોંચાડી શકો છો....

આ રીતે.... ઘણા બધા પ્રસંગો એ આપણે કોઈ નાં secret Santa બની શકીએ છીએ, અને એ પણ...કોઈ બીજા ની નહીં આપણી પોતાની ખુશી માટે! 

આશા છે આવનારા વર્ષ માટે Secret Santa એ તમારા જીવન માં ખૂબ સારી ખુશીઓ મોકલી હશે અને આપ સૌ નું જીવન સુખમય અને આનંદમય રહે, એવી ઈશ્વર ને પ્રાર્થના!

સ્વજનો, મિત્રો, વડીલો!!
તમારા બધાનું હું Dr Neeta Thakkar   મારા બ્લોગ page  'જીવન જાગૃતિ' માં સ્વાગત કરું છું.

જીવન જાગૃતિ એ
મારી, તમારી, એક સામાન્ય વ્યકિત નાં
જીવન માં આવતી જાગૃતિ ની કહાની છે.

જીવન આપણને રોજ કંઈ ને કાઈ શીખવતું  હોય છે.
